FAQ
Questions school leaders ask us.
Short answers about accounts, consent, the AI coach, safeguarding and student data. Where something isn't built yet, we say so.

Can students sign up on their own?
No. Only the school can create student accounts, and teachers are invited by the school's administrator. Google sign-in works only for email addresses already on the school's list.
How do you get parental consent?
When a school adds a student who needs parental consent, it can either give us a parent's or guardian's email address, or record that it has already collected consent itself. We'll confirm with your school the age up to which consent is needed.
We email the parent or guardian, who chooses "Give consent" or "Don't give consent". The student can't start until consent is given. Reminders go out after 7 and 21 days, and the request lapses after 30 days.
To withdraw consent, a parent or guardian contacts the school. There's no way yet for parents to withdraw it themselves.
What data do you collect about students?
Their name, school email address, school and age band; a parent's or guardian's email address, for consent; their work; and their conversations with the AI coach. We don't collect date of birth, gender, home address or profile photos, and we don't keep voice recordings.
Which AI do you use, and where does it run?
Anthropic's Claude, through Amazon Bedrock, limited to AWS's EU regions. Voice features use AWS in London. We don't use OpenAI or Google AI models. The AI isn't given the student's name.
Is student data used to train AI models?
We'll confirm this once we've checked it against our agreement with AWS. The answer depends on Amazon Bedrock's data-use terms for our account, and we'd rather check them than guess.
Can teachers read students' conversations with the AI?
Only conversations a student chooses to save. Students are told that their teacher can see saved conversations, and they can delete them. Teachers see the students assigned to them; school administrators see all students in the school.
What happens if a student says something worrying?
If the content filter detects signs of self-harm or suicide risk, the session is paused. The school's safeguarding contact is emailed, and the student's teachers and administrators get an alert; neither includes what the student wrote. The target for staff to respond is one business hour.
Not yet: the student isn't shown helpline details. Only conversations with the AI coach are checked in this way.
How do you stop the AI giving harmful content, or just doing the homework?
Every student message and every AI reply passes through a content filter, and anything flagged is blocked. The coach is instructed to guide students rather than hand over answers. That second part is an instruction to the AI, not a technical block, so it isn't guaranteed.
Can students see each other's work?
No. Other students don't see a student's work; their teachers and the school's administrators do. Students can submit activities they create to the school's library, and a teacher reviews each one before it appears.
Where is our data stored?
Today, on Base44's platform; we'll confirm the hosting region with Base44. We plan to move to Supabase in Singapore before launch (the target is 13 November 2026), and to delete the data held on Base44 within about 30 days of the move. AI processing happens on AWS in the EU.
How long do you keep data, and can we have a student's data deleted?
Not yet in a form we can promise. Automatic deletion isn't switched on: retention periods still need approving, and the deletion process finishing, first. Full deletion of an account on request isn't built yet. Students can delete their own saved conversations and notes.
Can we get students' work out of the platform?
Yes. Students can download their work as Word files. Teachers can download one student's work, or a whole class's (up to 60 students), as a ZIP file. Download links expire after 7 days. There's no full export of all of a student's data yet.
